About Me

Hi, I’m Olivia Rose, a food creative who enjoys bringing people together through good food. I learned to cook and bake from my mom and grandma at a young age, but my curiosity soon led me beyond their kitchens—like the time I set out to master French macarons at the age of 12, fueled by endless YouTube tutorials and plenty of failed attempts. As a self-taught chef, I am resourceful, intuitive, and determined to believe I can make anything with enough patience and practice.

Over the years, my passion for food has been shaped by my surroundings. From living in the Bay Area, Hawaii, Paris, and New York City, I’ve had the privilege of learning about different food cultures, cuisines, and systems. As I’ve immersed myself in each culture's unique relationship with food, one truth has stood out: food is a universal language that connects people, conveying values, history, and a deep sense of home. In all my culinary endeavors, I strive to embody that feeling of home.

Since moving to New York and starting NYU’s food studies program, I’ve hosted numerous dinner parties, creating an intimate environment for new connections to form and for my own culinary creativity to blossom. Food is my medium for storytelling, as seen through my Hawaiian Dinner Party where I told a story of Hawaii’s neocolonialism through various traditional and nontraditional foods. I’ve also expanded upon my baking business, which I started in High School, called The Rising Rose. What began as a baking blog and selling pastries at my local coffee shop in Hawaii has now transformed into a monthly pop-up bakery in NYC where I sell heirloom sourdough cookies made with a 200-year-old sourdough starter that has been passed down through my family. I also take custom orders for things like birthday cakes and cookies.
